It’s Wednesday my sweetums…and you KNOW what that means…ta-da….RANDOM ACTS OF ART! Whoo-hoo, that’s right. Time to spread some luvvvv one arty token at a time.
RANDOM ACTS OF ART…make a little arty something. Hide it in public where someone can eventually find it. Photograph the hidey spot and share it with the rest of us online.
In my case, that means little bitty painted heart rocks. Easy to make. Easy to hide. And weatherproof.
This week I decided to plant some love at the local hospital. I mean, who doesn’t need cheering up when they’re sick, right? And it just so happens I had an excuse to be there. Friend Amee’s Granny took up temporary residence with a broken leg. And I am a sucker for little old ladies. I took care of Mama for seven years and one thing I know for sure is they love company. Doesn’t matter if they know you or not. Someone popping in to say hi and hold a hand for a few minutes is a day-maker for sure.

So I drove to the hospital after work. I planted the first rock on a concrete thing just off the walkway between the parking lot and the main building. Plain site hide if someone is looking at the ground.

This is the entrance to the main building. The blue benches on the left are a bus stop.

Well, someone waiting for the bus after visiting their loved one could use a little cheering up, don’t you think?

As I walked through the lobby I left one on the newspaper rack. Maybe it would balance out the ugly stuff in the paper.
I found Granny’s room. Walked in an introduced myself. Then I reached in my pocket and gave her a rock.

Here it is on the bedside table. Seeing her there reminded me so much of Mama. Oh man, I love little old ladies. We chatted for a couple of minutes but I didn’t want to wear her out. I told her I’d be back and next time I’ll bring her a cookie.

On the way out I stopped at the nurse’s station. I explained what I was doing, what Random Acts of Art is all about. YAY! They were enthusiastic. Oh, yes they were! I gave them the last rocks I had in my pocket and they promised to hand them out in the unit. Who knows…maybe I have a couple more RAA converts on board.
Okay, now it’s your turn. Yes indeed! Do you have any Random Acts of Art to share this week? If you posted them on your blog enter the URL of the POST down below where it says You are next. YAY, it’s WEDNESDAY!!! OMG, you know what that means…cartwheels! Backflips! Handsprings! Because…ta-da it’s time for RANDOM ACTS of ART, Wednesday edition.
And now that we’ve got all that jumping around out of the way, would someone please call the chiropractor? Because being an acrobat in Cirque du Soleil is not in my future. Nor was it ever in my past.
But a girl can dream, can’t she….
So now as I settle in with an ice pack, a brief recap of RANDOM ACTS of ART WEDNESDAY for those who are new. It’s simple, really. A little something I started doing on Valentine’s Day. It was so much fun I decided to keep doing it. And I invite the world to join me. All you have to do is make a little arty something, leave it somewhere like on a trail or a restaurant for a random stranger to find. And after leaving little bit of anonymous luvvvv to brighten a someone’s day, take a photo. Then share it on your blog. And share the link here.
My Random Acts weren’t so random this week. First came sister Marjorie Ellen’s beautiful arty tokens, all the way from Norway.

Aren’t they gorgeous? Just some local rocks she covers with gold leaf and decorates with a tag from Yogi tea. She sent them with a special request, that I put them where Mama can find them.
So I put them in the oak grove where we put Mama last year. One year ago this past week.

And that’s where I put my own rocks. And sister Perci left some flowers. All nestled next to Mama’s big rock.
So for me it wasn’t about being random this week. It was just about spreading the luvvv right here at home.
And now it’s your turn. Got any RAA to share? Leave your link just below the post, where it says You’re next. Click here to enter. Can’t wait to see what you’ve got! The link stays open until Saturday midnight, California time.
Oh! And if you haven’t been to my Facebook page, check it out here. Got a couple art albums going there. And while you’re at it, do me a favor and ‘like’ the page, okay? I’ll be your best friend if you do, promise. I’ll even buy a box of Girl Scout cookies from your kid next year.

It’s Wednesday…time to spread the luvvv. Sprinklin’ good mojo one arty token at a time.
TaDaaaa…it’s RANDOM ACTS OF ART!!!
Good times. Good times.
And time for me to make some new arty tokens. Found I was almost out when I reached in my pocket this afternoon. Oh nooooooo! Deep pockets, lots of stuff. A couple of small flashlights. Neither one works. A little bottle of Rescue Remedy spay. Never know when you’re going to need that. Some paper towels because I ran out of tissues long ago. And hay. Lots of little bitty hay things.
And three heART rocks. Only three. So I had to think carefully where they could do the most good.
I hopped in the car and found myself heading to the other side of town. Actually, another town entirely. I got to thinking a good place for one of the heart rocks would be Mama’s cardiologist’s office. Really. Heart rock for someone seeing the heart doc.
Having been there with her many times I knew there was little chance I could sneak into the waiting room and hide the rock much less photograph it. Not without at least ten old people watching my every move. And the receptionist…no way I could get past that woman. Open the door and she’s got her hand out for the insurance card. Just doin’ her job, just doin’ her job…

So no, his office wasn’t a good idea. But the atrium of the medical building was. There it is, about knee height. Just waiting for someone who needs something to smile about after leaving the doctor’s office. Blind as she was, Mama would’ve noticed something like that and swooped it up as fast as…as a ninety-something year old could swoop.
Which isn’t very fast, really.
The medical building is near the hospital. Figured that would be a good place for a drop. People in the hospital need cheering up, right? So I made that my next stop. There wasn’t any parking down the hill at the ER so I went in the main door. Through the lobby.
But first I needed a tissue. It was raining. My nose was running. I couldn’t just reach in my pocket and pull out a paper towel and shake the chaff onto the floor. Not in the hospital lobby. The idea was to leave ART, not hay. So I went to the ladies’ room. And that’s where the perfect opportunity jumped out at me.

Right there on top of the paper towels. Everyone washing their hands will see it. But I hope it stays there until someone who needs it takes it. Along with one of those cards. Maybe it will encourage them to get out of a bad situation. Who knows….
After the hospital I decided to head downtown. Told myself if there was an easy parking spot I’d wander around looking for another drop spot. Lo and behold, the universe heard me! Easy-peasy. TWO parking spaces in a row. Doesn’t get any better than that when it’s parallel parking on a hill.
It was meant to be.
So I parked. When I went to feed the meter I realized the car behind me had run out of time. So I fed that meter too. And left a calling card rock. Double luvvv. Then I wandered into my original target, the little indy bookstore up the hill. Where I spent a most pleasant hour.
Uh-oh…See that yellow notice on the meter? Where it says ‘No Feeding’. I just read it now. Honest, officer. No ‘feeding’. Here I thought I was being a good citizen and it turns out I’m a law breaker. A parking felon.
Well, we’ll just let the karma fairy be the judge of that!
Now it’s your turn. Got any Random Acts of Art to share? I KNOW some of you do! Join the link party. Don’t be shy! Just enter below (above the comments) where it says “You are next…click here” Link stays open until 11:59 PM Saturday, Pacific (USA) time.

A view from the other side.
This weekend I was checking out a blog, Living in the Moment. Oh my sweetums…lo and behold, the subject was about…well, if you’re a regular reader of my Wednesday Random Acts of Art posts, you might have an idea of where I’m going with this.
TA TA–and you’d be RIGHT! Kristne Dubuque Ortega discovered, if not a Random Act of Art, a random act of luvvvv. You can read about it here. Go ahead. Read it RIGHT NOW. Really. Do. I’ll wait. And when you come back we’ll have a talk.
And jump up and down waving our arms and doing backflips because now you KNOW, without a doubt, how COOL it is when someone finds an unexpected little treasure. Something hidden but not quite hidden by a stranger.
Our little Random Acts of Art can make a difference in someone’s day. There, that’s our talk. Now on to business…
We’ll start today with a couple of contributions from sister Marjorie Ellen in Norway.

This first one was left in what normal people call a theater but Norwegians call the movie house. Very civilized, look…flowers. I don’t know the name of the movie. Or if sister M.E. had popcorn. I hope she did. With lots of butter and salt.

This one is extra special. She left it in the mailbox of a friend with a broken heart. I would make all sorts of heart emoticons here but I haven’t figured out how to do that.
Now it’s my turn and I have a confession. I didn’t get out much this week. Had a couple of snow days. Some work from home days. And a whole lot of painting going on down in Studio Grande. I did get some heARTs out but I decided to hide right here around the Porterosa. Because my family deserves love too, right?

The first one was a blatant gift for Mr. Spouse, he who is building the new, improved Studio Grande. A token of my appreciation left on the chop saw. He was honored. Well no, he was perplexed. After all, he couldn’t hammer it, chop it or eat it. But he decided to keep it somewhere special among his tools. So he said. He is a most romantic man. I suspect he’ll find it again in a few weeks, scratch is head and wonder where this came from.
I do so love him.

Now this second one has quite a story behind it. I had a rock in my pocket with the intention of driving into town and making an art drop. I was walking down to the barn, mulling over where I would go for the next random art drop. That’s when I felt the humm. It’s a vibration, really. Starts deep in the bones and resonates out through the soft tissue and then you hear it…angel voices in the wind.
The chimes we hung in the oak grove.
I forgot about the barn and headed down the path to the place where the deer bed down. The place where Mama wanted us to bury her ashes, along with those of my Dad. As I approached the circle of moss covered boulders, the hum I was feeling gave way to the soft gong of the chimes. Slowly, one distinct note at a time. As I stood next to the tree that holds the chimes that hang over the rocks where my parents are, the clapper began dancing in the wind-that-was-not and I KNEW that the right and perfect place for the rock in my pocket was right there. In the fork of the tree.
Because Mama was telling me, hey, why drive all the way into town when you can spread some of the luvvvvvvvvv right here.
So I did. Seems I listen to my mom better now that she’s on the other side.
