Women in Red # 2

Whoo-hoo! Off and running with the  30 Paintings in 30 Days challenge. If you saw my post from yesterday (and if you haven’t then stop right now and check it out) you know that I’m doing this on my iPad because I’m too lazy to clean the studio  a brave digital adventuress. Yes, I AM all that and more.

I’m also rambling so let’s just cut to the chase and show some art.

Here it is, Digital Daily #2,  AKA Women in Red # 2.

As always, if you like what you see please share with your friends. And do tell me what you think in the comments below. Because I care what you think, I really do. But mostly because comments are right up there with chocolate.

And you know how I feel about that!

Go Figure

Oh. My. Goodness! Where did this week’s post go? Where???

It went…AWAY. Poof! Just. Like. That. To the interwebs away place, wherever that may be.

I didn’t discover it was missing until this morning. I thought maybe it was just a crappy post and you, my best beloveds, were insulted that I put it out there. Insulted enough not to comment here or like on FaceBook.

Just one of those things, y’know. I’m a big girl, I can take rejection.

But after two days of cyber silence this little worm of an idea began squirming around inside my head (under my hair, the place where magic happens). The little worm said, ummm…did you hit publish?

What a silly question! I’ve been blogging almost two years now. I know ALL about the Publish button. The Save Draft  button. The Move to Trash button.

Uh-oh…

And now I know all about the Publish in a Parallel Universe button.

Yes, Parallel Universe. You have to trust me on this. It would also help if you were a theoretical mathematician and/or physicist. But mind-altering drugs, drinking too much and listening to this episode of Science Friday will get you there too. ‘There’ being parallel-land where parallel-you is reading the original post and snorting your coffee out your nose because it’s so damn good. The post, not your coffee. Although I hope the parallel-you indulges in decent coffee too.

And of course parallel-you leaves pithy comments and shares Arty-Life around the parallel-interwebs.

Just like you do here, right?

Okay, are you sufficiently confused yet? Good. Then I guess it’s time to climb off the dog ate my homework wagon and share a little ART with you now.

Oo Lala the Arty Life

Bottom of the Bowl # 1
Susan Lobb Porter

This, my best beloveds, is the beginning of a new photo/digital series I’m calling The Bottom of the Bowl. I realized one morning that the marks left on the bottom of the bowl of yoghurt were akin to the marks I leave on canvas. Imagine that! The original photo was all white and boring but then again, so’s a blank canvas. Right? But thanks to cyber-fairies and technology ART can happen even from dirty dishes.

Stay tuned for more. And please, tell me what the parallel-you would think of this. I’d really like to know.

Creative Oh!

Oh my sweetums…I have been to the moooooon and back this week.  An over the top orgy of creative bliss.

I have painted. Waxed. Manipulated. With more than one medium. Sometimes more than one at a time. That’s right, a little Arty Life love bunny flitting from one creative satisfaction to another. Loving ’em all passionately. Moving on to the next in line while leaving the first out to dry. Or download. Or set up. Or percolate in my brain.

And now I’m kickin’ back in the living room, feet on the furniture. Sated. Purring like a twenty year old heroine in a trashy novel. If I could talk to that girl, the one in that novel I’d say, “Oh honey, it gets even better than that. Trust me. Someday you will discover the Arty G Spot, the one between your ears, and life will never be the same.”

At least I hope she does.

blog 21 tools

This is a tease, a look behind the scenes at some well used oil and wax toys. (No comment. Do NOT go there!!!) I’m currently working on five panels, none of which are in the show-to-the-public-stage yet. They’re shy, y’know. Perhaps next week, when our relationship is more developed.

And here’s a peek at what else I’ve been doing this week. There are many many MANY more.

This is where painting and I parted ways. This, my dearies, is a digital manipulation of a photograph. Imagine that!

As is this, today’s (and every days’) contribution to the pony series.

And (arrow pointing down) the oh so DRAMATIC  self-portrait!

Which has not so dramatic roots….

Holy crappola, Batman! She’s finding inspiration in the work place potty!  Which only goes to show there ARE no boundaries to inspiration.

But wait–there’s MORE!!!

Remember last week when I said Arty Life will be undergoing a transformation? That’s still in the works. Or in my brain thinking about being in the works. Which is almost the same thing in my world. I have great plans afoot, including, but not limited to, digital magic! Which is why I did not explain any of the apps I used up above. That will come in time. More detailed than I can do right now. So keep checking in. I’m thinking around Valentine’s Day for the grand unveiling. And then I realized that’s only two weeks away. So maybe not. But soon, I promise.

As always, looking forward to hearing from you in the comments. If you have any suggestions, things you’d like to see covered in the new! improved! Arty Life!!! be sure to tell me.

XO my best beloveds. Till next week. Or the comments. Whichever comes first.

Creativity at my Fingertips

Holy smokin’ pointer finger!!!

Been playing with the iPad tonight. Whoo-ee. Playing, okay…because I DON’T KNOW what I’m doing. But I decided it’s time to learn.

So I checked out Magic Painter. As painting apps go, it’s pretty basic. You have a choice of brush effects, sizes, colors and background colors and textures. You can erase. And you can go back one. That’s it. Works on the iPhone too.

Oh, and it’s FREE!

Seemed like a good place to start. When it comes to all things digital, I prefer the easy learning curve. At least in the beginning.

Disclaimer: These are all quick ‘n dirties. Ten minute practice pieces. Don’t judge the app by the quality of what you see here.

Okay, so first I decided to mimic the technique I’ve been doing with acrylics lately. But the canvases I work on are MUCH larger than the iPad screen.

And the paintings are MUCH better. Then again, I’ve been painting for years. And they take longer than 10 minutes.

Magic Painter sample 2

This is the second. After this one I decided to just go to sketch mode. Which isn’t an actual mode on the brush menue, it’s a brush called ‘rope’.

Magic Painter sample 3

This took less than 30 seconds. Probably more like 10. Looks like it too.

The last thing I did was a combination of  background ‘sculpting’ and sketching.

Magic Painter sample 4

I like the feel of this one the best. The feel of the line. I can see doing some sketching this way, black and white. Exploring this style further. Reminds me of pen and ink.

So that’s Magic Painter.

Cons: It’s simple. Basic. Colors are limited with different brushes. Brushes are more special effects than actual brushes, which could get old real fast. No layers.

Pros: It’s simple. Basic. Easy to learn. And you can’t beat the price.
